I have lived in China for a while and never had any problems with men before in fact I was treated very well. Lately, I have beem treated much worse more and more cat calls, I have even been grabbed a few times and flashed. The worst part is when I told my coworkers they just said I was a western women so its just my fault for existing in China and being white.

I would definitely pack it up if I were you. I'm Asian, btw, and yeah the guys can be pigs. Definitely. The reason that there is an increase in this is because there is now less etiquette towards foreigners since foreigners aren't so foreign there, and their true colors are showing. I would flee that place like a refugee if I were you. I would never live in China, even though I complain a lot about the U.S. Anyway, I'm like the Asian Bill Cosby. I love to criticize my own race, and have often found that I am one of the most critical.

that is horrible that they told you that, yes, I have notice a steady decrease in morality since moving here last month a Western friend and a Chinese friend were flashed by the same guy in the same area, we went to the police and were told, it is normal and he did not touch you so there is nothing we can do A Chinese friend told me recently that it is common for his married business friends to hire prostitutes even though they are married and have a girlfriend Chinese men often ask me if I have a girlfriend and if I don't they can help me get one recently in a big mall in Shanghai I was even approached by a gay man, I reported it to the police b/c I was concerned b/c it was in the WC and maybe a young boy might be exposed to it and the policeman just said OK and sat there, so, I told him to get off his... and go check it out, so, he did, but, "could not see anything"

I don't know where you are in China. But I lived in the Shandong province. That behavior is unheard of, if some dudes were being ugly towards you other locals would "straighten them out" But if you are in the south, it can get that way, I went to the south and some guy stared at me and my wife and started doing the "pelvic thrust".....I couldn't believe it....it was ugly............

I'm sorry that it happen to you, Chinese women are also treated badly. They have gotten an impression from Hollywood that Western women are easy although they dare not do any thing but with anti-Western feelings this year they have seem to have lost a sense of morally towards Westerners.

I have seen the worst behavior by Chinese men. Most married men have a girl friend and prostitutes are very common at the local karaoke place. But, men hitting women is also very common even in public, I have seen this many, many times! And many women with black eyes on the streets. As usual it is none of your business. A modern society just doesn't act this way and the attitude that everything is none of your business is wrong. China needs to change this if they are ever to be a modern society and a world power. This is the one thing that I have a very hard time accepting about China. Men still think this is 100 years ago, it isn't. Their behavior should never be allowed or accepted by anyone! Be it women or other men.

I'm a chinese girl and i'm sorry to hear things like that .that is what we have to do more ,people should be moral and responsible.

I have seen with my own eyes, a Chinese man slapping his wife (or girlfriend) during an argument at Plaza 66 in Shanghai. Another incident, a man punched a woman on her face because the she accidentally scratched his car with her bicycle. All these happened in full view of others and NOT a single person help these helpless women. In fact, they gathered around the couple and STARED!! To be honest, the morals of the Chinese males and females are declining fast. Most married men, locals or expats have affairs and it's nothing uncommon. My drivers told me that this is so common and even some local women resorted to blackmails when the affairs ended with foreigners.
