Question for people who live in China

Question for people who live in China?
Are the Evangelical-bushist propagandas about the growth Christianity real? How many Christians are there in China? They're more than Taoists or Buddhists? Is really Christianity destroying the Chinese culture as it did with the European Pagan Roots?

If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, in the fine print you'll see "Answers International." Click on the link for China and ask your question there. You probably won't get much of a response here. You also may want to check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_in_China

I no longer live in China, but I did. It is true that there are more Christians in China than there were, but I wouldn't say that it's destroying Chinese culture. If anything, the government is doing it to their own people--any number of wonderful, small villages have been razed for this reason or that. However, you should know that probably the main 'religion' in China is really a philosophy--Confucianism. It's a series of teachings that stress obedience. However, numbers are very difficult to give you, because it's possible to 'overlap' the majority of Asian philosophy/faiths. It's possible to follow most of them at the same time. The main harm of Christianity in China is that it attempts to tell the Chinese that it is 'wrong' to live the way they do (in regard to spiritual life). I hope this helps!

Most of the Chinese are Atheist (Many years of outlawing religion has its impact) or profess to be non-religious, but there is a growing number of Christians in China. But they do not out number the followers of traditional religion. Hopefully it won't do that, though it might, and hopefully China will do something about it, like that one cult, Falun Gong.

There is a growth of Christianity in China but it's mainly brought there by ex residents of Hong Kong and Macao who were 'Westernised' years ago. I've been working as a teacher in China for 5 years and have only come across 4 Christian students, all of whom have come from ex colonies. I have a friend who is a police officer (and a Christian), he can't openly worship for fear of losing his job. I met another teacher who was scared of being sent to the 'fire lake' at death. I think she was the victim of a Christian fundamental foreign teacher (most likely an American). There are still many Buddhists in China, not so many Taoists as the 2 religions have seemed to have merged. My wife is a Chinese and although a declared atheist she still celebrates her ancestors with a money burning ritual. Islam is the fastest growing religion in China. Globalisation (or Americanisation to give it it's correct term) in general is more responsible for the eroding of the Chinese culture.

inner mongolia, actually. the less people the better.

I'm good living in America. There is more to life than just believing or not believing in any gods.
4 :
Scandinavia might be nice. I don't know, maybe China would be ok. At least they admit you're not free - here in the UK our government pretends we are and takes away our freedoms one by one.# Isn't it about time somebody blew up the houses of parliament?
5 :
All atheists should go and live in atheist North Korea.
6 :
as long as the laws are secular ,i like the uk
7 :
Scandinavia is too cold. I will stay where I am in the bible belt of my secular country and keep trying to make things better from here.
8 :
Hmmm... China actually isn't as bad as so many people say it is, so sure. I actually want to live in Japan, though.
9 :
I live in what is considered a western nation but has majority of atheist. I am good where I am

I'm perfectly content in a Christian based culture, but i just like it in America. No matter where I live, I would imagine that there will be people with different beliefs, but to each their own. I respect others religions, as long as they will respect my opinion as well. But to answer your question more directly, i think it would suck to live in China.
11 :
Atheism in America is increasing, and religious influence is dying. You can see how often Christians scream when they lose some of their influence, or when they even feel threatened.

SEND THE PINKO COMMIES TO CHINA! GYAAAAAHHHHHH!

I'm with the Red Shoe. There's way more to life than religion (or lack thereof).
14 :
I've made my choice through my actions. I'm here in the states.

I prefer to live in the U.S. because I was born and raised here. Religion isn't relevant. This country is large enough that both the religious and the non-religious can easily find their niches. That's one of the good things about it. However, if Christian fundamentalists and evangelicals ever engineered a way to take over the government and tried to impose their beliefs and lifestyles on me, My husband (who is Jewish) and I would leave. We have lived in a western European nation before; we could do it again.

The place where I grew up, was 100% christian, and I survived it I have worked behind the Iron curtain, and survived it. ...But the more secular the country, the more comfortable I would feel. I know christians who also state that outside the UK, the more secular the country, the safer they feel. America included.
18 :
Thank you, but I'm quite happy living in the US where, despite the "Christian majority," the US Constitution keeps us secular and protects my rights not to have to conform to anyone else's religious beliefs. I wonder if you'll turn the question around now, and ask theists if they would prefer to live in secular countries like the US or would they rather live in theocracies like Iran or Saudi Arabia.
19 :
Oh come on!! Forget the silly claims for christians and look at reality!! The churches own figures show only 28% ever attend church in a year. Indeed if 28% ever tried to attend church on the same day, even working shifts, there is simply not enough churches!! But count the bars - in many places there is more space In the bars than the churches!! Count all the seats in every church in a town and compare that to the population and it is very unlikely to achieve even 5%!!!

Umm... You know that Scandinavia is part of the West, right?

is it okay to live alone in one of China's rainforests without its local govermental control

is it okay to live alone in one of China's rainforests without its local govermental control?
I am a permanent resident of US and am thinking of moving to China and live in a rainforest located at Yunnan province,China. But, I am not certain whether the local people or their government would interfere with my seclusion. Can I live DIRECTLY in the forest without problems with locals?

You cant live in China period, some people are granted a permanent resident visa that has to be ruined constantly. VERY few people and only if you are considered a real asset or have made some wonderful contribution to China. You cannot imigrate to China, and no you cant choose to live where you please, every foreign resident has to register with the police.
2 :
If there is a house there you can live. But you must register with the local police station and you must have the correct visa. You can't just immigrate to China.
3 :
It is impossible. You will be suspected as a drug dealer. Chinese isnt allowed lives even under a bridge.
4 :
Yunan province is on the border with Vietnam so if you lived close enough you could leave the country on a regular basis to renew your Visa. but you would have to state where you were living and register with the police if you aren't staying at a hotel or hostel. You'd also need to prove that you have enough money to support yourself. As for living in the forest it may be possible - you'd have to stay at least one night in a hostel each time you came back into the country (you can find something very cheap in Yunan, maybe as low as 30rmb in xishuangbanna), you could then try to fined an isolated bit of forest, but if the authorities caught you you may have problems, and as a foreigner you'd stand out like a sore thumb, but there's plenty of tourists in Yunan coming up from Thailand so you wouldn't have too many problems. The locals are used to tourists.
5 :
living in Yunnan province is a good thing. there you can enjoy the best natural beauty in Lijiang and Dali which are the most attractive places I've ever been. Go for that

Where can you view the Super Bowl live in China?
If O'Malley's has it, do they get it by satellite? Where's O'Malley's in Shanghai? I know that China cable won't have it, or at least they won't have it live.
