If so, what are the common signs of someone suffering a "cultural dissociative disorder".

Not really. Most people come to adore Chinese culture as well as preserve their own when they live in China for a long period of time although the government really irritates some westerners.

I think a more confusing problem is the Chinese who think they are western.

this is wt we so called the 'cultural clash' or 'fusion of identities' as another answer said above, some Chinese also identify themselves as westerners especially those who live in the West long time. In return, Westerners who live in China for, as you said 5 yrs+, its also likely to think from Chinses way, adopt Chinese point of view, etc. Its just the Globalistion, easy, n everything gonna be fine

It might be common. I have seen more and more of it . It might be a mental thing to . Signs of it , BS coming out about China all the time . There are more signs I know . But , they maybe chinese and say that they are westerners ,some one said that . That could be mental to . If they are chinese and not westerners you would think they would know more about China . Maybe not . Is there some one you was thinking about here ? A friend maybe ?
