I was only 6 , too young to understand... I was happen to be in Beijing at that time, all I remember was crowds...many crowds, my dad hold me in his arms, I was scared...then we left. later when I grew up my dad told me, the college students weren't satisfied with the government, they held a ally at Tiananmen square, government shot the students, probably caused at least 2000 deaths...... to bkk: the guy below named soojin kim is not Chinese, he's a Korean, check out his former posts....If an arrogant country like Korea can develop to this degree, so can China. yes good things. the protest was run by absolutely worthless losers like the future stripper/whore bai ling. they had no idea what they were doing. because they were shot down, china has enjoyed 15+ years and counting of unprecedented economic growth and growing political clout. If those protesters won, china would be like taiwan - happily being white man dogs like japan and south korea. Who is the only asian power today? CHINA. every other country seems happy being dogs with white man military bases to protect them.

In fact it depends. The younger generations and teens don't know about the things that happened there. I have a Chinese collegue (27 years old) and he is aware of it. But in fact getting some info about it can be tough in China. I saw a TV repport in France once about a test : - type Tiananmen on google.fr and you will have sites with pictures of the riots and the man in front of tanks. - type Tiananmen on google.cn and you will have sites with pictures of happy childs on the square. I did it and it worked.

Yes, but in a more analytical way. Most people only see one side of the story. BKK, if Chinese people don't know the truth as you claimed, how do you know the truth? WHere did you get your truth from? FOX news?

The answers that you see from Soojin Kim ( who's comments I consider to be unashmedly RACIST ) and Astrid Nannerl ( above ) are a typical example of how the Chinese people have been taught to react to any mention of the SLAUGHTER in Tianenmen Square and gives a very good insight to how many Chinese people think. The fact is that THOUSANDS of INNOCENT people were MURDERED by the " Peoples " Army on the orders of the CHINESE GOVT or more specifically DENG XIAOPING ( a "man " now revered by many Chinese people ) The FACTS have been, for the most part, hidden from the Chinese people and many remain completely ignorant of the TRUTH about that awful incident that effects the way that China is viewed by the rest of the world to this day. There is only " one side " to the story and that is :- THEY MURDERED THEIR OWN PEOPLE FOR PEACEFULLY DEMONSTRATING. Unfortunately many Chinese people will not admit that this was the case and thereby perpetuate the bad feeling that many people in the rest of the world have for China. There was NO justification for the MASS MURDER or the subsequent lies that were told to the Chinese people and there is no justification for perpetuating these lies ! EDIT. Astrid :- As I'm sure you know people here in the FREE West have access to a wide variety of media sources from many different Countries unlike the vast majority of Chinese people who have to rely on the heavily CENSORED MEDIA or INTERNET that exists in China. Or do you consider the likes of CCTV or The Peoples / China Daily newspapers the only source of truth in the world? Why are websites that carry reports of the SLAUGHTER STILL BANNED in China? Are you claiming that the 80% of the world that is not Chinese have all been told lies about the MURDERS in Tianenmen square in1989? Was it just all a WORLD conspiracy? You do yourself or your Country no favors by trying to justify the slaughter of innocent peacefull demonstrators and bystanders by your Govt. Why are you afraid of the TRUTH? Are you ashamed ? Perhaps you would like to explain WHY your Govt. chose to MURDER THOUSANDS of their own people. I'm sure the rest of the world would be most interested to here your " truth ".
