There were near a hundred millions 50 years ago. Today a few millions are left alive. You can call those Turks "Uyghurs" just like you can call the Turks in Turkey (Anatolians)

There are around 10 million Turkic people living in China today, mainly in Xinjiang province in Western China. The biggest group is the Uyghur (8.4 millions), but there are also Kazakhs (1.3 millions) and smaller groups of Kirgiz, Yugur, Uzbeks and Tatar living in China, all of whom are Turkic peoples and still generally speak different Turkic languages (totally unrelated to Chinese). Actually, many of the 10 millions of the Muslim Hui minority living in China are also descendants from Turkic peoples, but since they (as opposed to the other minorities mentioned) are strongly assimilated into the Chinese culture, which means they also speak Chinese, it is more or less impossible to distinguish who might be of Turkic origin and who might not, which makes it meaningless to use "Turkic" as an ethnic label in their case.
